Screening
MicroPhage's MRSA screening test identifies methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) in 10 hours in an easy-to-use platform for even the simplest of laboratories.
An escalating problem
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that more than 22,000 Americans died in 2004 from antibiotic resistant pathogens, most importantly MRSA. Rates of S. aureus infections have increased dramatically over the last 20 years in North America and much of Europe.
Instances of MRSA infections have also increased. Now, more than 60-percent of all S. aureus infections in U.S. hospitals have been found to be MRSA. The Society for Healthcare and Epidemiology in America (SHEA) has identified MRSA as the "most out of control" antimicrobial-resistant pathogen in U.S. hospitals.
A powerful tool
Active surveillance can help significantly reduce these infections. MicroPhage's bacteriophage amplification test is available at a price that is more in line with chromagenic culture media than molecular tests – but with all the performance. A single tube test, MicroPhage's MRSA screening test is ideal for any institution concerned with testing for MRSA in their patients. Built on our easy-to-use platform, the MRSA screening test allows for simple, unbatched test starts and batched or unbatched results.
